Fellowships

Over 246 individuals have been helped by NZ-UK Link Foundation Fellowships and initiatives since our establishment in 1990. See Alumni.

Testimonials from recent Fellowships include:

  • "I feel that I am doing what I should be doing with my life and for my career, and it is a great feeling. I am very grateful for this opportunity.” Anastasiya Filippochkina, 2008 Elman Poole Music Fellow.
  • "It is a fantastic opportunity to grow as a leader and business person. It will be a year of great challenge and an experience of great worth. I am grateful for the effort and generosity of all the people who have worked together to make this scholarship a reality.” Adrian Wood, inaugural winner of the Cranfield New Zealand Alumni Scholarship in 2007.
  • "This is the highlight of three years of hard training. The prize is amazing and changes everything - my career and life will change for the better." Thomas Townsend, 2008 NZ-UK Link Foundation Cookery Modern Apprentice of the Year.
  • "The trip was an experience of a lifetime....Through my now increased depth of understanding I feel more grounded within my chosen industry. I understand, not only the global effect of the industry, but also New Zealand's place within it." Melanie Elliott, 2005 Benfield Link Foundation Reinsurance Scholar.

Some initiatives involve Fellowship Partners where corporate bodies work together with the NZ-UK Link Foundation to develop tailored study or training programmes, such as the Benfield-Link Reinsurance Scholarship. Benefits for Partners are: added-value for corporate profile; networking opportunities throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom; development of staff, students’ or members’ careers; exchange of knowledge; encouragement of talent; build lifelong relationships and friendships. The Foundation can help with administration of the Fellowships, including negotiation of placements, if required.

Others are drawn from NZ-UK Link Foundation funds at the discretion of the Trustees or New Zealand Management Committee.  Recent examples of New Zealand Discretionary Awards, presented by the New Zealand Management Committee, include assistance for young New Zealand portrait artist Freeman White to attend a residency at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and to Wellington's Kotuku Choir's tour to the UK. Applicants must be either nationals of or permanently resident in either New Zealand or the United Kingdom and must apply in writing in the country of residence.

British Airways and Air New Zealand may assist towards airfares for scholars travelling from their own country to the antipodean destination.
