The NZ-UK Link Foundation was set up originally as the Waitangi Foundation in 1990 after the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Kotuku – the white heron, a beautiful example of one of New Zealand’s most endangered bird species - at the heart of our logo was the symbol of the organising committee for the events that marked the Sesqui-centenary.
Under our Trust Deed, the Foundation exists to enhance links between New Zealand and the United Kingdom, through establishing and maintaining a series of educational exchanges and by awarding scholarships, grants, allowances and prizes to individuals to visit the other’s country. These exchanges are facilitated in the widest range of educational disciplines – economic, social, cultural and scientific (see Fellowships).
Since 1990, over 250 individuals and several groups have been supported by the NZ-UK Link Foundation.
The Foundation is registered as a charitable organisation in both the United Kingdom (number 802457) and New Zealand (number CC36164) and donations to the Foundation in either country can be claimed for tax purposes under applicable law.
We have offices in the UK (London) and New Zealand (Wellington), staffed by part-time Executive Officers. A London-based Board of Trustees works together with the Wellington-based New Zealand Management Committee on a programme of activity. Contact us.
